Grief Resources
Individual counseling, local grief support groups, and online websites may help in working through your grief.
GriefShare is a nationwide network of groups of people who meet weekly to share and support each other during the grief recovery process. Visit www.griefshare.org to find a support group near you.
Online resources include discussion forums, educational tools, and a community for people who are dealing with grief. You may find one or more of the following websites to be helpful:
“Meaningful Conversations with everyday people about their experience of loss and how they navigated the grieving process. Normalising grief and helping people to feel a little less alone. Podcast episodes hosted by Grief Therapist Liz Gleeson”
This award winning and top rated grief podcast, available on most podcast platforms, has over 100 episodes that cover a diverse and wide variety of topics surrounding grief, death and dying, covering everything from loss, delayed grief, loss of children, etc. It even touches on subjects like autism, addiction, and much more to reach a wider audience of those who may relate. I believe this would serve as a valuable addition to our resource library and our website because it offers professional and real life experiences, while showcasing effective conversation, coping, and builds support.
The Empower Mentor Program is a nationwide program that focuses on children, that matches mentors who have gone through a comparable loss with children and young people (up to age 24) who have lost a parent. These mentors support young people in developing resilience, navigating grief, and realizing that loss is manageable. You can either enroll as a Mentor, or Mentee, allowing for the spread of all sorts of experience and knowledge to help others in their grief and loss journey.
The Company, remembering a life, offers a wide variety of different brochures available for families, surrounding different topics. These quick and easy to read materials offer a less intense and overwhelming way to educate families and offer ways to navigate different losses. Not only do they cover loss itself, but also explain why funerals are important, and what value families can find from different services.
9/11 widow Tanya Tepper shares her knowledge of grieving and discusses the misunderstandings and fallacies she has come across with our conception of grief. She develops her ethos highlighting her experiences as a widow to help those who are dealing with trauma and bereavement feel hopeful and resilient while giving viewers a personal connection. TED Talks are widely popular and serve as a very personable form of media to allow for understanding and knowledge. This would be great for people who want to feel more of a connection rather than try to read and put pieces of a puzzle together.
This documentary dives deep into validating the experience of bereaved people and offering guidance to those who want to assist them, rather than illustrating grief as an issue simply needing fixing. It highlights how not everyone grieves the same way, and that there’s no universally correct way to grieve. Grieving is a common yet unique feeling by presenting a variety of depictions of loss. It also features diverse stories to reach a larger audience.
