American Veteran 02

Terrance "Terry" Daniel Donohue

November 18, 1946 ~ October 5, 2022 (age 75) 75 Years Old

Terrance D. Donohue died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022, after a long battle with illness and surrounded by his family. Terry was born Nov. 18, 1946, in Mt. Pleasant, to the late John J. Donohue and Mary D. Donohue. He served as a marine in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. He was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat. In his youth, he backpacked solo through India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey, and travelled to Mexico and throughout the United States. Having travelled the world, Terry chose to settle here in Greensburg to raise a family with his wife of 35 years, Elizabeth Joy Donohue. Elizabeth survives him, as do his two daughters, Margaret Donohue and Alison Roman; his stepdaughters, Melissa and Charlotte; his sister, Jane Donohue, and her children, James and Ellen Newman; and many grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, numerous friends and his late brother, Dr. John Alex Donohue. The thing many of us will perhaps miss the most about Terry is his humor. Terry never met a stranger. He was charming, funny and quick with a joke or a story. He was curious and intellectually willing -- the life of the party, the center of gravity in any room. He was also a contemplative man who enjoyed solitude and could be quite happy with his crosswords and his own company. Terry had a sense of wonder at the world that he maintained until the day he died; he dauntlessly, courageously and even in his darkest hours, loved life and celebrated life's pleasures. He lived vibrantly and he loved fiercely. It is the misfortune of many to have never known him, but it is a great privilege for those who did. His children never once questioned that he loved them profoundly; they never had to. His love was as luminous and as obvious as the sun. In the words of Walt Whitman, "Nothing is ever really lost or can be lost, ample are time and space, ample the fields of nature." As certain as his family are in his love for them, they are equally certain that they will see him again. All are welcome to celebrate Terry's life at noon Saturday, Oct. 8, in the Greensburg Hose Company No. 8, 900 Highland Ave., Greensburg, PA 15601.
