William “Bill” Ruffner Jr., 89, of Greensburg, passed away on Wednesday, May 13th. Bill was born on March 30, 1937, in Luxor, the son of the late William and Irene Ritenour Ruffner.
In addition to his parents, he is reuniting in Heaven with his wife of fifty-six years, Doris Ann Adams Ruffner. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Grace (Bill) Seanor, Goldie (John) Durco, and Catherine (Wayne) Neal and a nephew, Dan Zilli.
He is survived by his son William “Bill” Ruffner III and his wife Dawn Macon Ruffner from Marietta, South Carolina, his grandson William “Bo” Ruffner IV, daughter-in-law Brittnee Shaffer Ruffner, granddaughters Blakelee 5 and Laynee 2 from McDonald, OH.
His niece Terri Zilli Fontanazza and husband Steve Fontanazza were important to him, longtime dinner companions, and caregivers in his elder years. He is also survived by nephews John Zilli, David Zilli, Tom Zilli, John Durco Jr., Jeff Neal and nieces Susan Bennett, Joanna Doyle, Kitty Comisak, and Kitty Shield.
Bill was born and raised on a farm near Luxor, PA where he learned many of the lessons that he carried throughout his life. He started his work career as a contractor at age fifteen mowing gas lines with a team of horses. Three years later he was hired by Consolidated Natural Gas (CNG) where he worked for thirty-nine years before retiring in 1996. He had many hobbies throughout his life including driving race cars, playing softball, golf, carving, restoring old cars and hunting. He was a man who could do almost anything and a good friend to many. He will be missed.
Relatives and friends of Bill will be received Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Clement L. Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc. 409 W. Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg, PA 15601, (724) 837-0020.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Clelian Heights School for Exceptional Children, 135 Clelian Heights Lane, Greensburg, PA 15601.
