The Reverend James F. Petrovsky

The Reverend James F. Petrovsky, who served as a priest in the Diocese of Greensburg for 58 years, died at the age of 84 on September 15, 2026. At the time of his death, Father Petrovsky was retired and residing at Saint Anne Home in Greensburg, PA.

A son of the late Frank M. and Mary A. Petrovsky, he was born on April 25, 1942, in Kittanning, PA. Father Petrovsky, who grew up in Ford City, attended the former Holy Trinity Catholic School in Ford City and he graduated from Saint Fidelis High School and College in Herman, PA. He attended seminary at Saint Vincent in Latrobe, PA. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 18, 1968, at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral by The Most Reverend William G. Connare.

Father Petrovsky is survived by his very close friends Jack and Patricia Filak and as well as many close friends in the various Parishes in which he served.

During his priesthood, Father Petrovsky served as a Parochial Vicar at Saint John the Evangelist Parish, Latrobe from1968 until 1972, and Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg from 1972 until 1976. Father was then appointed Pastor at the former Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish, Monessen and the former mission, Holy Cross, Webster from 1976 until 1985, Saint John the Baptist Parish, Perryopolis from 1985 until 1991, Holy Trinity Parish, Ligonier and the former mission of Saint Ann, Wilpen from 1991 until 1997, and the former Saint James Parish, Maxwell from 1997 until 2008.

Father Petrovsky was appointed as Senior Priest Active with Pastoral Responsibilities at Saint John the Baptist Parish, Perryopolis, the former Saint Hedwig Parish, Smock, Saint Peter Parish, Brownsville and Saint Cecilia Parish Grindstone from 2008 until 2013, Senior Priest Active with Pastoral Responsibilities at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Masontown while continuing his duties with Saint Peter Parish, Brownsville and Saint Cecilia Parish Grindstone from 2008 until 2013. In 2016 he was appointed Pastor at Saint Joan of Arc Parish, Farmington until 2025 while also serving as Chaplain to the State Correctional Facility in Labelle, Fayette County until his retirement in 2025.

Visitation will be in the Parlor at the Christ Our Shepherd Center located at 2900 Seminary Drive, Greensburg PA 15601 on Thursday September 17, 2026, from 4 to 8 PM.

On Friday, September 18, 2026, visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by The Most Reverend Larry J. Kulick on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the St. Joseph Chapel, at the Christ Our Shepherd Center, 2900 Seminary Drive, Greensburg PA.

Interment will follow at 2:30 PM in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Ford City PA.
