Ralph Palmer

October 30, 1927 — March 5, 2017

Ralph D. Palmer , 89, of Greensburg, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017. He was born Oct. 30, 1927, in Sutersville, a son of the late Raffaele Palmieri Palmer and Mary Merlino Palmer. Ralph grew up in the Ludwick section of Greensburg. During his youth, and into his 20's, he was an excellent softball pitcher for Ludwick in the City Softball League. Ralph loved to play golf and for many years played in various leagues at the Mt. Odin Golf Course. Ralph was a member of the Greatest Generation and during World War II, at the age of 17, joined the Maritime Service and served on the Liberty Ship, James D. Doty, which transported military vehicles and equipment to Okinawa. In 1945, Ralph joined the Army and was attached to the 4500th Quarter Master Corps in Japan. After his honorable discharge in 1947, Ralph worked for many years at the Age-Craft Awning Company in Greensburg. He then formed his own business installing windows, doors and siding houses. Ralph was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. He was a man of faith, a good brother and will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Palmer and wife, Marie, Frank Palmer and wife, Theresa, and his stepfather, Angelo Guerrieri. His surviving siblings include Mary E. Palmer, Bina Guerrieri and Donald Guerrieri, all of Greensburg, and Richard Guerrieri and wife, Paula, of Stafford, Va.; also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ralph requested no public viewing or service. A private memorial service will be offered at a later date to celebrate his life. Ralph's family has entrusted his care to the CLEMENT L.
