Rabe Ferguson Marsh III

October 20, 1936 — August 24, 2025

Cranberry Township

Rabe F. Marsh III, loving husband of Diane T. Marsh and devoted father of Christopher, Daniel, and Stephen, died the evening of Sunday, August 24, 2025.

Rabe, or “Bub” or “Bubby”, as he was called in his younger days, was a son of Greensburg. Born to Judge Rabe F. Marsh, Jr. and Marguerite Dayton Marsh, he grew up in the Hillcrest neighborhood, attended the old Greensburg high school and spent his entire career in Greensburg, first as an attorney at the Beldens’ law firm and later at Costello, Marsh, Ward & Christner. He also served as Assistant District Attorney, spending much time in the Greensburg Court House.

Rabe graduated from Mercersburg Academy, where he was on the shooting team, and then Lafayette College, like his father, grandfather, and many other Marshes. He earned his law degree from the University of Michigan, where he met his future wife.

After graduation, Rabe became an officer in the United States Navy. He served on an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean and lived with his newly wedded wife in Nice, France, where his first child was born.

Rabe had many hobbies. He had a life-long passion for ham radio and had his call letters, “W3TNU,” on his car license plate. He was an avid sailor who owned two yachts which he sailed on the Chesapeake Bay and, in 2008, down and up the eastern seaboard on an adventurous intracoastal and ocean expedition. He was also a licensed pilot, flying out of Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe.

Rabe was a passionate lover of classical music, especially Mozart, which was his favorite, by far. He also enjoyed movies immensely: The Red Shoes, The Third Man, and James Bond among his favorites.

From his childhood till recently, he travelled every summer to the Georgian Bay, Canada, to spend time fishing with his family at his beloved Yankanuck Club. He was a very talented fisherman who won numerous fish pools, as well as the coveted “Bass Hog Award.” Indeed, Rabe was a man of many parts who could surprise you with his skill at, for instance, carpentry, drawing, piano, computer programming, singing, and reciting poems from memory.

Rabe was very affable, with a playful sense of humor, and was well-liked by all – his work colleagues, fellow Yankanuck Club members, and fellow residents and staff at Sherwood Oaks.

Rabe was a true Christian gentleman who gave to others, such as volunteering for the Red Cross after he retired. His love and support for his family never faltered, despite the sometimes-difficult times of raising children, for which his sons are everlastingly grateful.

In addition to his parents, Rabe was predeceased by his wife Diane, his son Daniel, and his beloved Goldendoodle, Sunshine. He is survived by his son Christopher and wife Bonnie of Centerville, PA; son Stephen and wife Lisa of Norwell, MA; daughter-in-law Tracy of Tarpon Springs, FL; and four granddaughters: Corinna, Mia, Molly, and Taylor.

Relatives and friends of Rabe will be received Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Clement L. Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc. 409 W. Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg, PA 15601, (724) 837-0020.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday August 30, 2025, in the Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Martin R. Ankrum, officiating.
