Melda Dian (Guie) Idzik, originally of Connellsville, went to join her loved ones in the next life on June 27, 2026 in Greensburg, PA. She was two weeks shy of her 79th birthday. Melda, known to her family and friends as Dian, was a deeply loving and devoted wife and mother, and touched every person she met with her kindness, generosity, and open heart. She will be remembered and missed always.
Dian was born on July 13, 1947 in Ephrata, PA to Melda Shartzer and Capt. Edwin Guie, who had fought in the Battle of the Bulge. She spent her childhood in Connellsville, PA, and, after her father’s death and mother’s remarriage, in Silver Spring, MD, before returning to western Pennsylvania, where she would spend the rest of her life. It was at this time that she began working as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company, where she eventually became a supervisor and made many close and lasting friendships.
Dian married the love of her life, Frank Idzik Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, in 1982, and in 1991 they moved to Greensburg with their two children, where they remained and raised their children to adulthood. Dian loved being a mother, and created a life of joy and wonder for her children; later, as they got older, she was a devoted marching band parent, musical parent, and supporter of their every endeavor.
Dian felt profound compassion and empathy for those around her, and loved animals and the natural world. Formerly Vice President of Connellsville’s Garden Club, she was a talented and avid gardener, and her gardens always flourished; she loved to feed and get to know the birds, deer, squirrels, and other creatures that visited daily. She loved music, singing and dancing, old movies, Westerns, and spending time at one of her favorite places, Linn Run State Park. And she loved, perhaps above all, to care for her family.
Dian is predeceased by her parents and stepfather, John Grubb, and her brother, Edwin Bruce (E.B.) Guie. She is survived by her devoted husband, Frank Idzik II, and her loving children, Sarah Idzik (Dan) and Frank Idzik III. They will never stop learning from her love and wisdom.
A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 6 at 1:00pm in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg; attendees should go directly to the church. Interment will follow at Greensburg Catholic Cemetery. Friends are invited to celebrate Dian's life at a reception following interment at Greensburg Hose Company No. 1. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Elephant Aid International or Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh.
Dian’s family has entrusted her care to the Pantalone Funeral Home Inc., Greensburg. For online condolences / directions, visit us at pantalone.com. Natale N. Pantalone, supervisor.
