Mary (Ross) Petrill, 99, of Greensburg, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, in Greensburg. She was born Dec. 19, 1916, in Bitner, a daughter of the late Michele and Colomba Lombardi Ross. Mary was a member of St. Paul Parish. Prior to her marriage to "IJ" in 1937, she worked at Porcelier and in later years worked at the former Troutman's in downtown Greensburg. She also volunteered at Westmoreland Regional Hospital. She was an avid reader and loved to crochet and spend time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Isadore James "IJ" Petrill, in 1981; two children, Isadore J. "Izzy" Petrill (Linda) and Dennis S. "Denny" Petrill; a son-in-law, John "Skip" Surovy; two brothers, Roccie and Mike Ross Jr; five sisters, Jenny Ross, Christina Iarussi (Joseph), Helen Policastro (Ben), Phyllis Damico (Sam) and Julia Bononi (Adam); and brother-in-law, James R. Sassos. She is survived by her four children, Patty R. Surovy and Lou Zecchini, Jack M. Petrill and wife, Roxie, and Jerry Petrill and wife, Kathy, all of Greensburg, and Rosemary Burke and husband, John, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Linda Petrill, of Greensburg; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Angie Sassos, of Greensburg; sister-in-law, Shirley Ross, of Greensburg; and countless nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Mary from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME INC., 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, PA 15601, 724-837-0020. Parting prayers will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in the St. Paul Parish. Interment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery. The family would like to thank caregivers, Lois Clark and Shari Marsolo, and the sisters and staff at Villa Angela for their loving care and support.
