Mary Jane Grayson

September 7, 1944 — August 23, 2025

Mary Jane Grayson, 80, of Greensburg, PA was welcomed into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 23, 2025. Mary Jane was born on September 7, 1944, in Sharon, PA and raised in Pittsburgh. Mary Jane graduated from Dormont High School and began studies at Wheaton College. Later in life, she went on to earn a bachelor’s degree, a master’s in counseling, and a doctorate in Christian education.

Mary Jane was a gifted educator, devoted to serving as teacher, principal, coach, mentor, and tutor at Monroeville Christian Academy, Open Door Christian Academy, and Orchard Hills Christian Academy. She touched the lives of hundreds of students by nurturing and guiding them, both academically and spiritually.

She later embarked on a successful career in real estate, working in both Pennsylvania and North Carolina. She consistently demonstrated dedication, professionalism, and care for people, helping many families find a place to call home.

Throughout her life, Mary Jane was actively involved in ministry, serving as a Sunday School teacher, organist, pianist, choir director, choir member and willing helper in many other church and school activities. A heart for service, a joyful spirit, and a steadfast faith marked her life.

Mary Jane lived most of her adult life in Greensburg, PA. For nearly 38 years, she was the devoted wife of Jerome Grayson, whom she married on June 11, 1966. Together, they raised five children in a home built on love and faith.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Grayson; parents, John G. and Frances A. Patterson; and brother, John R. Patterson. Mary Jane is survived by her five children – Jon (Joy) Grayson, Mary Beth Grayson, Stephen (Toshie) Grayson, Adam (Bonnie) Grayson, and Sara Grayson; seven grandchildren – Jared (Nikki) Welty, Joshua (Kayla) Grayson, Stephanie Danielle Grayson, Lyndsey (Brett) Freelandt, Samuel Grayson, Hannah (Tyler) Bussel, and Zachary Grayson; and six great-grandchildren – Jonathan Welty, Davi Joy Welty, Christian Welty, Joella Grayson, Lillyana Grayson, and soon-to-arrive Baby Freelandt.

Mary Jane’s family rejoices in knowing she is now home and is deeply grateful for the many friends, former students, and loved ones who have shared how she touched their lives. A memorial service and celebration of life is tentatively planned for September 27, 2025. Details will be announced at a later date.

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.’ Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” – Proverbs 31:28–31 (NIV)

Mary Jane’s family has entrusted her care to the Clement L. Pantalone Funeral Home Inc., 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, PA 15601. For online condolences / directions, visit us at pantalone.com. Natale N. Pantalone, supervisor.
