Joseph G. Lotto, 99, of Greensburg, died Friday, April 19, 2024.  He was born November 02, 1924, in Hannastown, a son of the late Louis and Maryann Agresti Lotto.  Joe was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, where he served as an usher for over 25 years.   He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, the VFW Post #33, the AMS Club, and the Latrobe Elks.  He was also a member of the PA Sheriff's Association, the Westmoreland County Deputy Sheriff's Association, National Sheriff's Association, the Westmoreland County Law Enforcement Association, the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, the Sons of Italy, the South Greensburg Hunt Club, and the Columbus 500.  After graduating from Greensburg High School in 1942, he enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and was stationed in the South Pacific aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Bataan.   After the Bataan was damaged, it returned to Hawaii for repairs and then Joe was transferred back to the states and assigned to a destroyer, the USS Hawkins to continue serving in the South Pacific until the end of WWII.  After serving his country for three years, he was honorably discharged and received the Pacific Theater Ribbon with three stars, the American Theater Ribbon, and the Victory Medal. Upon returning home, Joe became the owner of the former Town Tavern and the former Thunderbird Lounge.  In 1968, Joe joined the Westmoreland County Sheriff's Department where he served 30 years as a Deputy Sheriff and a Real Estate Deputy.  He was promoted to Captain and then to Chief Deputy until his retirement in 1997.   Joe also served as Constable of the Second Ward in the city of Greensburg while working for the Sheriff's department.  In his young year Joe enjoyed golfing with his sons and friends and was very proud of his hole in one at the Sheraton Golf Course on October 26, 1989.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Antoinette M. Cararini Lotto; grandson, Matthew Lotto; sister, Lena Resinto; and three brothers, Nick, Sam and Frank Lotto.  He is survived by his two sons, Louis Lotto of Greensburg and Dennis Lotto (Lynn) of Mt. Pleasant Township; three grandchildren, Anthony, and Daniel Lotto and Marie Lotto-Bristol (Thomas); several nieces and nephews; and longtime friend, Betty Rua of Greensburg.  Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Joseph, Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Clement L. Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc. 409 W. Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg, PA 15601, (724) 837-0020.  Prayers of transfer will be said in the funeral home Tuesday 9:00 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral.  Entombment with Military Honors accorded by the VFW Post 33 will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.  The Knights of Columbus Council #1480 will hold services Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude PL, Memphis, TN 38105.  Joe’s family has entrusted his care to the Pantalone Funeral Home Inc., Greensburg.  For online condolences / directions, visit us at pantalone.com.
