Helen Mikan

Helen (DeFrances) Mikan , 89, of Greensburg, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017, in UPMC Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born Feb. 7, 1928, in Salem Township, a daughter of the late Levi and Elsie (March) DeFrances. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Mikan, on June 9, 1986; and sister, Gloria D. Mackin. Helen will be missed and is survived by her children, Andrew M. Mikan (Patricia), of Gaithersburg, Md., Thomas J. Mikan (Janice), of Jeannette, Daniel J. Mikan (Kathleen), of Sarasota, Fla., Kathryn A. Bell (Jon Eric), of Gibsonia, and John D. Mikan (Deborah), of Kingwood, Texas; grandchildren, Aaron Kreinbrook (Maryellen), Dustin Kreinbrook, SMSgt Thomas J. Mikan (SMSgt Shannon Fuhrmann), Lauren DiNapoli (Peter), Alexander Certo, Zachary Mikan, and Nicholas Mikan; and great-grandchildren, James Kreinbrook and Andrew Mikan. Helen loved her family, her home, baking, and most recently, the residents and staff at The Arbors, St. Barnabas - Valencia. Prior to retirement, she was a receptionist at the Westmoreland County Blind Association. She enjoyed answering the phone and greeting visitors and employees. Helen previously worked for Westmoreland County Court House, WCCC and State Farm Insurance. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Helen from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME INC., 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, PA 15601, (724) 837-0020. Parting prayers will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, followed at 9:30 a.m. by a funeral Mass to be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be made to Westmoreland County Blind Association 911 South Main St., Greensburg, PA 15601.
