Helen Byers

Helen (Takitch) Byers , 92, of Greensburg, passed on to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital. She was born Sept. 30, 1924, in Hecla, a daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Kopkas Takitch. She was a faithful member of the First Lutheran Church in Greensburg and their Virginia Boyers Council for many years. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Greensburg Salem School District and also volunteered for a time at Westmoreland Hospital. Helen was a gentle and soft-spoken lady and will be remembered as the most unselfish wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend to those who loved her dearly. She cherished her family and committed her life to making theirs better. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alex J. Byers; six brothers, Edward, Joseph, George, Robert, Eugene and John Takitch; and three sisters, Pauline Takitch, Julia Lorence and Margaret Kobistek. She is survived by her two children, Alex W. Byers and wife Rachel, of Greensburg, and Carol Garlow and husband Donald, of La Jose; two grandsons, Alexander Byers and wife Carrie and Loren Byers, all of Greensburg; two brothers, James Takitch and wife Betty, of United, and Charles Takitch and wife Rosalyn, of Greensburg; a sister, Mary Agnes Dillon, of Mt. Pleasant; and many fond nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Helen from 11 a.m. Friday to 12:30 p.m., the time of services, in CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME INC., 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, PA 15601 (724-837-0020), with Pastor Jerry Nuerenberger officiating. Interment will follow in Visitation Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. The family would like to thank the staff of Redstone Highlands and Excela Health Westmoreland for their loving care and kindness.
