Eugene “Gene” Forish, 68, of New Alexandria, died Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in the Forbes Regional Health Center. He was born October 08, 1957, in Latrobe, a son of Maragret Hornock Forish of New Alexandria and the late Eugene A. Forish who died in 2005.
Gene was a man who loved his family, cherished family history and traditions, and made his career sharing his love of music and his faith. He was a long-time member of St. James Parish in New Alexandria. He studied Sacred Music and Music Education at Westminster College and went on to study Pastoral Ministry and Theology at Seton Hill University. Early in his career, Gene taught music and served as an organist in New Jersey before returning to Pennsylvania to earn his MBA at Duquesne University. He worked as a manager in the IT Department at Fisher Scientific before joining the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, where he worked from 2004 to 2015. In 2015, he became Director of Music and Liturgy at Duquesne University, retiring in 2022. Following his retirement, Gene returned to the Greensburg area, where he served as Associate Organist at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, cooking, visiting museums, and spending time with family and friends. He was a true people person and was always willing to help others.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister, Mary Cole (Jim) of Roanoke, VA; his brother, John Forish (Susan) of Greensburg; nieces and nephews, Andrew Forish (Lorena), Olivia Townsend (Nathan), Dr. Michael Cole (Dr. Amanda Williams) and Dr. James Cole; several great nieces and great nephews; several aunts and many cousins.
Relatives and friends of Eugene will be received Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Clement L. Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc. 409 W. Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg, PA 15601, (724) 837-0020.
Prayers of transfer will be said in the funeral home on Monday, August 24th at 9:00 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral.
Interment will follow in Calvary Hill Cemetery, Crabtree.
