Elizabeth E. “Betty” (Leone) Painter, 97, of Greensburg, died Thursday, January 01, 2026, at home. She was born June 01, 1928, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Michael O. and Sylvia Coletti Leone.
Betty was a devoted member of St. Vincent Basilica and a lifelong Catholic. Early in life, she began her journey with the Sisters of Mercy and took solemn vows; due to an unforeseen illness, she was unable to complete her final vows and returned home. She began employment with her brother at Singer on Main Street in Greensburg, where she met Dan. Dan chose to become Catholic and share Betty’s faith, and together they raised a loving family. In later years, Betty volunteered as a teacher’s aide at West Point Elementary and with Goodwill, touching the lives of many in her community.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel B. Painter in 1983; an infant son, David M. Painter; brother, James Leone (Agnes); and two brother in laws, Joseph Bloom and Clarence B. Smail.
She is survived by four children, Suzanne Battistella (Louis), Daniel T. Painter (Lucinda), all of Greensburg, Karen Ruoff (Mark) of Latrobe and Christopher Painter (Joni) of Greensburg; nine grandchildren, Rachael (fiancé, Jason Coulter), Danielle McClain (Robert), Elysia Battistella (Stephen Wolfe), Jillian Joyce (Thomas), Brandon Battistella (Liz Weaver), Candis Boop (Edward), Daniel J. Painter (Samantha), Joseph Painter and Juli Painter (fiancé Bradley Short); ten great grandchildren, Travis, Madolyn, Mikayla, Logan, Carter, Ben, Matthew, Beau, Rhett and Mackenzie; two sisters, Mary Bloom of La Jolla, CA and Ellen Smail of Greensburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends of Betty will be received Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m., and Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Clement L. Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc. 409 W. Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg, PA 15601, (724) 837-0020.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 06, 2026, in the St. Vincent Basilica. Everyone please go directly to the Church.
Entombment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
