Joseph Michael Kettering, M.D., 51, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family, following a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Born April 26, 1964, in Bethesda, Md., he was the son of Dr. Donald Louis Kettering and Patricia Stadterman Kettering. Joe was a Greensburg Central Catholic High School alumnus (class of 1982) and attended the University of Pittsburgh, graduating as a recognized University Scholar in 1986. He was a devoted Panther and completed his medical training at the University of Pittsburgh; he graduated from medical school in 1990, was chief resident during his residency in radiology, and completed a fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology. Joe practiced at Excela Health hospitals as a partner of Radiological Consultants LTD., for nearly 20 years. He had a strong work ethic, was well-respected by his colleagues and touched many lives. He maintained membership in the American College of Radiology, Pennsylvania Radiologic Society and Pittsburgh Roentgen Society. As a longtime member of Greensburg Country Club, Joe was always ready for his next round of golf and enjoyed traveling to different courses and playing with friends and family. Joe could also be found taking bike rides, playing the piano and walking the family dog, Charlie, through the neighborhood. Nothing was more important to Joe than his family. His children were the pride of his life, and he instilled in them his honesty, integrity, strong work ethic and faith. He will be remembered as a humble and caring man, who could win over just about anyone with his charm. Joe was a parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. Joe was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Judith L. Marsh. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his father-in-law, Bailey Kent Marsh, of Bridgeport, W.Va.; his devoted and loving wife of 22 years, Jennifer Marsh Kettering; his two children, Caroline Elizabeth Kettering and Louis Kent Kettering; his three siblings, Donald Louis Kettering Jr. and his wife, Lucie, of Chicago, Ill., Mary Pat Sullivan and her husband, Daniel, of Moon Township, and James Martin Kettering and his wife, Michele, of Silver Spring, Md.; a brother-in-law, Charles Kent Marsh and his wife, Ann, of Bridgeport, W.Va.; 10 nephews and nieces; and two great-nieces.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Joseph from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME INC., 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, PA 15601, 724-837-0020. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, 300 N. Main St., Greensburg. Everyone please go directly to the church. Entombment will follow in Mary, Mother of Mercy Mausoleum at St. Vincent.
