Daniel Zilli

Daniel J. Zilli , 46, of Greensburg, left his earthly life to join God in Heaven, Monday, May 2, 2016. He was born Oct. 8, 1969, in Greensburg, a son of Martha M. Adams Zilli and the late Angelo J. Zilli. Dan was an active member of St. Bartholomew Church, Crabtree, working the annual Mt. Carmel Festival. Dan was a 1988 graduate of Greensburg Salem High School where he competed in football, basketball and track. A larger than life figure to friends, he dedicated much of his life to serving others through the South Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department. He worked as assistant chief at the Borough of Mt. Pleasant Police Department, where he served for 23 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 87, Westmoreland County Police Chief's Association and a veteran member of the Attorney General's Westmoreland County Drug Task Force. Dan initiated many new programs and wrote grants to help his community. He really enjoyed his participation with the "Reality Tour" and "Shop with a Cop", where he was able to support the community's youth. Along with his father, Dan joins his grandparents, Zachariah and Anna Zilli and Glenn and Martha Adams; and aunts, uncles and friends who preceded him in death. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Christine Salandro Zilli; his daughter, Giacinta Cassa Zilli, who was the light of his life. He took amazing pride in each of her accomplishments. Dan is also survived by his sister, Terri Fontanazza (Steve), of Greensburg; his three brothers, John Zilli (Susan), of Chillicothe, Ohio, David Zilli (Cathy) and Thomas Zilli (Nicole), all of Greensburg; his in-laws, Jim and Rose Salandro; his brother-in-law, Richard Salandro; his sister-in-law, Laurie Salandro; and cherished time with many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his canine companion, Buddy. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Dan from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME INC., 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, PA 15601, 724-837-0020. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2016, in the St. Bartholomew Church, Crabtree, with Father Justin Matro, OSB, celebrating. Everyone please go directly to the Church by 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Hill Cemetery, Crabtree.
