Barbara Buccasso Nino
A Life of Faith, Grace, and Unconditional Love
To say that the earth lost an angel on Sunday, October 11, 2026, would be an extraordinary understatement. On that peaceful Sunday evening, surrounded by her favorite people and held lovingly in the arms of her children, Barbara Buccasso Nino was called home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. While the world is undoubtedly a little less beautiful without her, Heaven has welcomed home one of its most precious angels.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jim and Florence Buccasso; her brother, Dominic Buccasso; and her sister, Mary Jo Buccasso. Her family finds tremendous comfort in knowing that, after so many years apart, they have finally been reunited in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Barbara leaves behind the love of her life, her high school sweetheart and devoted husband of 54 years, Dr. Raymond Nino. Their beautiful love story spanned more than five decades of unwavering devotion, friendship, and faith. She is also survived by her daughter and very best friend, Nicolena Nino Rosato, and Nicolena’s beloved husband, Francesco, whom Barbara loved as a son; her beloved “Sonny Boy” and favorite, Dominic Nino, and his devoted wife, Stephanie, whom Barbara cherished as a daughter; and the seven precious grandchildren whom she lovingly referred to as the greatest joys of her life: Gloria, Luca, Francesco, Sadie Grace, Jameson, Luciana, and Vincenzo.
Before dedicating so much of her life to her family, Barbara was a devoted educator in inner-city Chicago, where she taught children from all walks of life, many from impoverished and challenging circumstances. To Barbara, teaching was never simply a profession. It was a calling. She recognized potential in children who may not have recognized it in themselves and tirelessly worked to change their lives. The countless heartfelt letters she treasured from former students and their families remain a testament to the extraordinary difference she made. But Barbara’s remarkable gift for touching lives extended far beyond the classroom.
It has often been said that there is not a single person on this earth who could speak an unkind word about Barbara Nino. And perhaps the most beautiful explanation for that is simply that Barbara never had an unkind word to say about anyone else.
She possessed a rare and extraordinary grace. She welcomed strangers like lifelong friends, made everyone feel important, and loved without condition. She was elegant without pretension, generous without expectation, and faithful without judgment.
In the days surrounding her passing, her family was overwhelmed by an outpouring of messages describing Barbara as one of the kindest, most gracious, and genuinely beautiful souls anyone had ever known. What a remarkable legacy to leave behind—not merely to have been loved by so many, but to have made so many people feel loved themselves.
Above all else, Barbara was a woman of extraordinary faith. Her love for Jesus Christ guided the way she lived, loved, and treated others. And in her final moments, her family received a beautiful reminder of that faith.
As Barbara took her last breaths, a joyful song filled the room, repeatedly proclaiming, “Jesus is in the room.” For those gathered around her, there could have been no more fitting or comforting message. Jesus was, most certainly, in the room. He had come to take the hand of His faithful servant, free her from earthly suffering, and welcome her into eternal peace.
Her family is heartbroken beyond measure, but they find comfort knowing that a love as extraordinary as Barbara’s does not end with death. It lives on in the family she cherished, the students she inspired, and the countless lives made better simply because she was part of them.
Barbara spent her life being an angel here on earth. On October 11, 2026, she simply went home.
Until we meet again, Mama Nino. You were our greatest blessing and our own little piece of Heaven here on earth. Well done, good and faithful servant. Welcome home.
