Arlyss A. Meyer, 83, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend unexpectedly passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024, in her apartment at Redstone Highlands in Greensburg. She was born March 16, 1941, in Chillicothe, Illinois, to the late Elmer L. and Frances I. Allton. She graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1959, where she was a cheerleader and played drums in the band. She loved growing up in the small town of Chillicothe and was fortunate to have many cousins around who were like brothers and sisters to her. After high school, she attended Bradley University for two years having studied music education. After leaving Bradley, she worked as a secretary at Hyster’s in Peoria. She met her husband, Robert T. Meyer (Bob), at her friend Helen’s wedding to Bob’s brother, Don. Arlyss and Bob would later marry on August 3, 1963, in Chillicothe They started their married life together in Hartford, Connecticut, before moving to Carriage Road, Unity Township, in 1970 for Bob’s job at Westinghouse. Many wonderful memories and friendships were made living on Carriage Road. Although a devoted homemaker for most of her life, Arlyss did work part time after her children got older. She was a Mary Kay consultant for a time and worked part time for orthodontist Dr. Kenneth Purvis, in Latrobe. She later translated her love of music into a job teaching piano lessons out of her home. Arlyss had a very active social life and enjoyed playing bridge, going to lunch with friends, and participating in a book club. She made friends easily. She was her kids’ biggest supporter in all they did, and continued to be there for her grandchildren, cheering them on at their soccer games, tennis matches, and school musicals. She was happiest when on the go. A devoted Christian, she was a member of Charter Oak Church for more than 50 years where she participated in small groups and bible studies. She leaned on her faith more and more as her multiple sclerosis slowed her down and made movement difficult. She rarely complained despite the pain and physical limitations she endured. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister and later her husband in 1997. She is survived by her four children, Laure Carroll and husband Curtis Carroll of Alpharetta, GA; Stephanie Sourapas and husband Michael Sourapas, of Los Angeles, CA; Kathryn Massaro and husband Joe, of Latrobe, PA; Robert T. Meyer and wife Kristine Meyer, of Downingtown, PA; eight grandchildren; Courtney and Ashley Carroll, Sela and Dean Sourapas; Avery, John, and Allison Massaro, and William Meyer; sister-in-law, Helen Meyer; many nieces and nephews, and many special friends from Chillicothe, Carriage Road, and Overview Place. We love you, Bird, and you will be sorely missed. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Arlyss, Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Clement L. Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc. 409 W.
