Rosaline M. (O'Donoghue) Mullan

August 2, 1930 ~ May 29, 2017 (age 86)

Rosaline M. (O'Donoghue) Mullan, 86, of Greensburg, died Monday, May 29, 2017, at her home. She was born Aug. 2, 1930, in Clones, Ireland, a daughter of the late James and Rosaleen (Sherry) O'Donoghue. Rosaline trained as a registered nurse at Cheltenham Hospital in Cheltenham, England. Occasionally she was assigned to care for members of the Royal Family. Due to a nursing shortage, she was recruited to the United States in 1955 and served at Beth Israel Hospital in Newark, N.J. Rosaline eventually became a U.S. citizen in 1961. Rosaline belonged to the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, was a member of the Cathedral Choir, Parish Council and served as a Eucharistic minister to the sick and homebound. She also loved to volunteer in the community. She was an American Red Cross volunteer nurse for many years, volunteered for Catholic Charities, St. Anne's Home and served on the Westmoreland County Board of Elections. Rosaline also loved tennis, especially coaching. She was a longtime tennis coach for Greensburg Salem High School and Seton Hill College and was inducted into the Seton Hill Athletic Hall of Fame. She co-founded the White Caps tennis team. Rosaline enjoyed her membership in the British Women's Club of Greensburg. Her home was always open and welcoming to all, whether it was hosting foreign exchange students or someone in need, she offered loving motherly hospitality. Many friends and family members enjoyed her gracious hospitality and her great Irish sense of humor. Rosaline's lifelong service to her church and community can only be matched by the way in which she served her family in faith, love and hope. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by loving and devoted husband, Edward Mullan, of 56 years; her brothers, Austin, James, Michael and Philip O'Donoghue, and infant brother, Aloysious; and sisters, Doreen O'Donoghue, Nuala Ede, Helen Engleman and Dorothy Jones. She is survived by her loving sister, Hilary Nally; six children, Deirdre Barber (David), of Greensburg, Jennifer Hughes (Sam), of Loveland, Ohio, Daniel Mullan (Carolyn), of McMurray, Maggie Ditzel (Doug), of Dayton, Ohio, Edward Mullan (Christy), of Sicklerville, N.J., and Lindsay Mitchem (Daniel), of Canonsburg; 11 grandchildren, Emma and Grace Hughes, Connor, Matthew and Kelsey Mullan, Patrick, Nicholas and Ethan Ditzel and Abigail, Hannah and Christian Mullan; and numerous other beloved family members.
